Formerly known as the ECAC North (from 1979-1988) and the North Atlantic Conference (from 1988-1996), the America East Conference stretches across seven states of the northeast United States. Charter member Boston University, Maine, and New Hampshire were joined in 1985 by Hartford, 2001 by Albany, Binghamton, and Stony Brook, and 2003 by Maryland-Baltimore County. The conference sponsors twenty-one men's and women's championship sports.
